Here are the ideas that inspired me for this painting. With shifting our calendars to March (Spring!), my memories went back to the times when I lived in Ukraine. On March 8, International Women Day, men often gave flowers to the women of all generations in their families. On the streets you could purchase spring bouquets of flowers from gardeners. Among them were tiny crocuses, which you can see on my new painting. Three flowers represent three generations, with the youngest in the middle, turned to the light as it is still to continue to receive the celestial energy. The oldest one is in the left corner – she is still beautiful and supportive of the youth, but not fully in the picture. On the right is a flower representing a middle generation – she is fully opened and mature. All three of them are united by a lace ribbon. The shape of the ribbon is similar to the hand crocheted lace collar that women used to were with their dark dresses in the past. But it is also a wedding veil lace trim, the ends of which are floating freely away. In that way the lace ribbon does connect the time. I have chosen a mint colour as a background for this painting. As per one of the fashion websites, it is a “colour of coolness, freshness, and the sea breeze; the colour of your favorite cocktail, the colour of vigor and courage…”. No doubt that the air in northern regions is still “cool and fresh”, so it was a good choice for a March painting (not to mention that purple goes well with it as they are on opposite sides on the colour wheel).
